Behold the Kraken… Err, Korken! Large opening for cleaning; replaceable gasket; affordable price.

Maybe this is a funny thing to post about, but, if they’re useful to me, then I’m sure they’ll be useful to someone else. When I started working on my refrigerator pickle recipe, I wanted to get a mason jar to store them in. I quickly discovered that mason jars are for long term storage and feature single use lids; they’re also sold in bulk. Randomly, while roaming through Ikea, as one does, I came upon the Korken.

The Korken are a set of glass storage jars that feature reusable rubber gaskets to keep them air tight. They come in multiple sizes. The one I chose is a large 34 oz. jar whose opening is big enough for me to get my sizable hand inside of for cleaning. That said, the jars are dishwasher safe, but the gaskets need to be washed by hand. Admirably, the gaskets can be purchased individually as a replacement part to prolong the life of the jars.

I just found out this weekend that my sister is using Korkens for dry food storage. I didn’t think about this when I was purchasing mine, but it’s a great idea. These are much cheaper than a lot of the plastic alternatives out there and are probably even more airtight based on my experience. I’ll likely be adding more to my kitchen in the future.

Just a short post this week. Let me know if you think kindly of product recommendations such as this.

Thanks for reading, Matt
